The Simple Truth Of Our Body's NOT So Simple System
The human body is a complex machine. From the trillions of cells
doing their very specific jobs to the automatic functions like
breathing, we are absolutely incredible. There is a huge diversity
among the many populations. Yet, as diverse as we are, we are all
almost completely identical. What allows us to be almost exactly the
same, yet so different? The platform upon which we are built. We adapt
at a very slow pace, which is what makes it such a stable platform.
But
if we have such a great platform to build upon, why do we have such a
rampant incidence of disease and rapid breakdown, which is happening at
much younger ages? There are a few reasons. The biggest reason is our
ability to mass produce and genetically engineer our food sources.
Whether you love or hate modified foods, they are a pervasive part of
our daily living, and almost all have a negative impact on our health.
You
grew up learning a simple truth, "You are what you eat, from your head
down to your feet." The sustenance of every part of our body is
dependent on what we ingest (or don't ingest for that matter). Your
body is like a city. The buildings are your muscles, and their
foundations are your bones. The roads leading in and around the city
are your blood vessels, and the sewage system is... well, your sewage
system. And the city planners, policemen, firemen, construction
workers, city crews, as well as the people who live in the city are your
cells.
When you haul poor quality products in, a week structure
is built. If you continue to haul poor quality products in, or entirely
forget some products, not only can the city not be built stronger, it
will start to fall apart. Next thing you know, the city planners aren't
talking to the city workers the right way, the police and firefighters
are busier than ever, and the sewage workers have gone on strike. It
doesn't take long after that for your city to start to collapse.
But
even if YOUR city is starting to collapse, there are some simple things
you can do to start to repair it. The simplest way, adding better
nutrients to your diet. It goes beyond eating more vegetables. As I
stated earlier, foods are being modified and in the process are losing
much of their nutritional value. Want to scare yourself a little? Do
an online research on the decline of nutrient values of fruits and
vegetables. Many have lost anywhere from 15-50%!
In future
articles I will direct you to some keys to bettering your nutrient
uptake. For now, just keep thinking about the city you're building with
every bite.
