Well, first you need to understand the basics. One pound of fat is equal to 3,500 calories. By merely cutting 500 calories through simple dietary and exercise adjustments it has been proven that you can lose about one pound every week. And quite frankly I wouldn't even consider this a diet, more just a permanent lifestyle change.

It's Okay To Splurge
Nothing irks me more than someone who loses a lot of weight and feels as if they can tell everyone else what they should and shouldn't eat. They absolutely can not stand to consume a single carb. Well, great. We're happy that you lost your weight. Bravo! But don't judge me by what I eat, especially when I've spent all week drinking water, eating healthy, and exercising. It must be sad to never live outside the box a little. What has totally worked for my family is eating healthy throughout the week and allowing ourselves one or two days to splurge on the foods that we really enjoy. It's a great way to not only reward yourself but to also keep yourself motivated knowing that if you do everything you're suppose to do for five or six days at least one day out of the week you can indulge in a pint of Ben and Jerry's or scarf down that delicious double bacon cheeseburger you've been salivating over all week. There's no harm in it people and don't let anyone tell you differently.

Healthy Eating Is A Lifestyle
It is important to keep healthy snacks accessible if you're on the go a lot. If you don't it is a surefire way to end up at your closest McDonald's or Burger King. Fighting hunger is always fighting a losing battle. Try snacking on fruit, peanut butter and crackers, nuts, low-fat yogurt, some type of trail mix and things of that nature to keep that metabolism firing away. If you plan on exercising it is important that you eat a light breakfast or snack before. Exercising builds up a hefty appetite so you want to negate that as much as you can.

Gyms are located all around the world. Still, it is difficult to find a gym that is suitable for you. You are unique and only something unique will work for you. Everyone is different and every gym is different. In every city, there are a large number of gyms and slimming centers. Go to Google map and type the keyword "gyms" and your address into it. You will see the number of gyms located near you. Note their phone numbers and addresses.
Now, they are located near you. You can check them by visiting them. It is better not to waste your time. Make some calls. The tone of receptionist will tell whether you should join this specific gym or not.
Ask about their services.
Their timing.
Moreover, their charges, fees, and membership plan.
Also visit their sites. Ask your neighbors, if they have been to that specific gym.
Are they clear about their fee plans? Or they say they will design a fee plan when you visit them?
Note down the answers. Select 5 gyms and visit them. Look at their environment, equipments, and their mentors. Every gym manages some classes, health seminars, and competition. Every gym should give you a free trial; may be for a day or a week. Use this trial. If you finished your trial on Monday, visit the gym on Thursday and see how it looks now.

In my in-depth studies of the Vedas the study of energies is of the utmost importance. In particular the balancing of the male and female energies. As you know we are all energy, and as you also are probably aware, we all have both masculine and feminine energy in our make up. Men usually have more of the masculine energy which is more aggressive, macho, hostile, warring, violent, feisty, domineering, assertive, forceful, dynamic, energetic, enterprising, vigorous and audacious. Women usually have more of the feminine energy which is more nurturing, loving, warm, inclusive, peaceful, embracing, modest, weak, soft and gentle, timid, meek, docile. And you can find many more adjectives to explain both energies in a positive and in negative ways. Energy flows through us and it is we as individuals who decide how this energy is used. Because the ultimate goal is for us as individuals to balance our own energies, to find that inner equilibrium of both the masculine and feminine energy so that we each become a whole person, a well-balanced human being.
A woman who has an over-developed feminine energy might be strong with her feelings but too weak physically or mentally, she might find it difficult to be independent and mighty be needy with low esteem, unable to exist without a male partner who she looks up to as her carer, provider or master. A man on the other hand, with an over-development masculine energy and and under-developed feminine energy might be butch and strong physically, maybe mentally but is a total contemptible being when it comes to feelings and relationships with partners, family or friends. Both are, therefore, unfinished specimens of humans and need some transformation to become whole and full functioning contributing to society in a wholesome way.
We are actually beginning to see signs of these transformations everywhere. Whenever you see a man being gentle, kind, compassionate, taking care of a baby, defending a woman, peaceful, just, wise, intelligent, intolerant of violence or degradation of women, you see a man who is developing his feminine energy aspect, to balance with his male energy, in a positive way. This does not mean that he has given up his manhood on the contrary, he is more of a man and shows more strength when he embraces all these feminine values. Whenever you see a woman being assertive, eloquent, decisive, independent, energetic, dynamic, you see a woman who is activating her masculine energy to find that equilibrium with her female energy.
It is this inner equilibrium that they strive for, making them into a higher more developed human being, and when such a couple come together, they are interdependent and not dependent on each other, it means they are able to genuinely communicate without playing games, it means they have and they treat each other with respect, and are able to love unconditionally.
The same applies to business people in the work place who can be much more effective when balanced. Dealing with people who have found this inner equilibrium this inner balance of their masculine and feminine energy is quite refreshing and different from dealing with people who are immature, with hidden agendas and who play games because of their own inner insecurities and shortcomings.

- Be open and integrate alternative methods of healing along with the traditional medicine. Focus on preventive medicine. With modern medicine we have lost a lot of knowledge and wisdom of ancient teachings and it is time to claim it back. Many of us have embraced this already but the traditional medical system has yet to make this leap.
- Respect and value all women around you always on all levels. Help them to recognize their own value and importance of their contribution to society. It is women who give birth and nurture life and we must never forget that.
- Take interest in the psychology of children, their education, their involvement with nature, in improving the educational systems where schools should be a sanctuary for the youth, who are the future generations of leaders of our world. Help to introduce meditation and yoga for the young at school. This will benefit them and the whole of society.
- Teaching methods can change to include both the right and the left hemisphere of the consciousness, to encourage creative powers, develop a balance in the curriculum between developing logical thought and creative imagining.

The Men Behind The Therapies: Carl Rogers


Often called the father of the Humanistic approach, Carl Rogers offered an alternative approach to psychology which rejected the deterministic nature of both behaviourism and psychoanalysis. However before Rogers found his feet in the world of psychology, his previous career choices included agriculture, history and religion.
Rogers was greatly influenced by Abraham Maslow who created the hierarchy of needs concept. This states that certain basic requirements have to be met in order to reach self-actualisation (when one reaches their full potential). It is therefore up to the individual themselves to be in control of their own life.
Rogers declared that for a person to grow or self-actualise the need three things; a genuine environment, acceptance, and empathy. Without these healthy relationships it will limit how much a personality can grow, although every person has the potential to achieve their dreams. The great psychologist looked deeply into three factors which can affect self-actualisation:
Congruence - Humanists believe that for a person to fulfil self-actualisation they need to be in a state of congruence which means that their ideal and real self have to match up
Self-Worth - Rogers stated that children need a high level of self-worth which is established by their interaction with their parent as a child. A person who has a high level of self-worth are most likely to be a confident person with positive feelings. They are also able to face challenges in life and accept failure at times. On the other hand people who have a low self-worth tend to be defensive and guarded. They can also not accept painful and unhappy experiences
Positive Regard - The approach declares that we need to be regarded positively by others (which means we need to feel valued, loved and treated with affection). This is something which is extremely important in childhood as children who are shown unconditional positive regard, whereby their parents accept them for who they are which is not withdrawn when they make a mistake, means that the person is more likely to self-actualise. On the other hand if a parent only shows positive regard depending on their behavior this is an example of conditional positive regard.
Client-centered therapy
Client-centered therapy differs from other therapies. Firstly, it moved away from traditional therapies in the sense that it takes a non-directive approach. This means that instead of the therapist directing the sessions, asking questions, providing advice or interpretations, the client is responsible for improving their own life. They will decide for themselves what the problem is and what should be done about it. The therapist will only have to create an environment whereby the client feels comfortable enough to talk about their feelings. Secondly, the humanistic approach will always refer to the client as a 'client' and not a 'patient'. This is significant because it is an attempt by the humanistic approach to see the client and therapist equally instead of an expert treating a patient.
Client - centered therapy has helped many people take control of their own lives and fulfill their potential. This was all developed by a very intelligent man whom the psychology world could have lost to another subject area.

There has been a lot of buzz recently about nutritional shakes and their advantages. While the majority of nutritionists would say that shakes can't be a long term substitute for real food, we want to make the case - and a genuine one - that shakes can be better than what is these days termed as 'real' food.

Nutritional shakes have exactly what you need
As far as nutrients go, sometimes food is overrated. It does have all the necessary nutrients that we know of, and some extra, but there is just too much other stuff that has to be consumed along with that. For example you'd have to eat two whole chicken breasts to get just 35g of protein. When you add in the hassle of preparation and presentation, you realize that there are many other ways you can be spending your time. Meal-replacement shakes are a great alternative for that, to make life easier for you and also allowing you to eat well.
Not only do nutritional shakes have real proteins, carbs and fat, their proportions are usually modified according to a person's needs, making it much easier to get exactly what you need. For example, for a bodybuilder, a high protein shake will give him or her so much more protein than a meal chock full of eggs and meat. Whereas a person who is on diet can take a low fat or low carb drink, with limited calories, and feel really full without needing anything else.

"Real" food
Although there's so much pressure laid on us to eat real foods, the fact of the matter is that most of what we eat everyday simply doesn't have the nutritional value we require - and most of it can hardly be called real food. Most of our daily diet consists of food stuffed with preservatives, additives and colorings. Even when you're buying fresh fruits and vegetables, you can't be sure that what you're getting is not tainted. The use of pesticides and genetically modified crops have become so prevalent that unless you consume organic all the time, you run the risk of consuming more chemicals than ever before in history, with every bite of 'real' food.

Since making real food can be difficult and time consuming, people often take the shortcut of eating fast foods. Now, most people realize that fast foods are not good for you health-wise - the calories, fat and sugar content in them is so high that you're a thousand times better off drinking a shake. We weren't always this way. I can remember when I was growing up that people with weight problems seemed to be rare. Now the tables have turned and those who are fit are in the minority.
We are a spoiled nation. We have it easy. Things have come a very long way from our nation's beginnings. When the first settlers came from Europe, they had to work hard to build a home, and provide for their everyday necessities.

There were no gyms, no bike trails, no exercise videos... there was no need. Daily life kept you in shape. You had to work hard to survive.

Over the centuries, modern inventions made life easier... and made us more sedentary. Instead of physical work outside in the fresh air and sunshine, we now have desk jobs in artificially lit cubicles or offices.
