My Dutch Diet
Is there a more depressing sentence in the English language, "I'm on a diet? For me, the answer is no. Whenever I decided that I should go on a diet, a huge wave of what I can only describe as fear and depression came over me, I knew what to expect -. my life as I knew it was on Ahead lay a road from hunger and irritation.
So I am very pleased to have achieved , and to be able to tell you that diets do not work!
I am proof of this screw . Be on plans for over 20 years , nothing but make me bigger and depressed did. And believe me, I have all tried every pill powder, food fad and trend or celebrity diet I could get my hands on. When I attended one of these methods of weight loss, I always seemed to focus on what I had no right to eat . It made me feel isolated from those who apparently could eat what they wanted and not put on any weight. Dieting made me feel like I was being punished.
Do not take my word for it . If plans have a job, obesity would not be a problem.
Plans may be attractive. They promote themselves as the solution, when in fact, in many cases, they are the problem. If you follow a diet, I 'm sure you will lose weight, but how sustainable is that weight loss ? There are plenty of statistics to show that people who follow a diet put the weight back on and more.
For me, the real danger of diet is that it becomes a kind of lifestyle. It can make physical damage if you are indeed starve following a restrictive diet, or losing constantly and gain weight in cycles. You make it increasingly difficult to maintain a stable healthy weight because your body is constantly on the alert for the next period of "famine", as shown , and the chemical balance in your body changes to keep as much calories in times of " feast " as possible, so diet makes you fat. Not to mention how it can affect you psychologically. You can become obsessed with food. Dieting can be the trigger for developing an eating disorder.
So what is the alternative? Well, this is not a quick fix. It is to look at your life over the long term. It's not only look good for your next party or fit into this dress. Success lies in the search for a lasting solution.
The good news is ( except that you never have to make a new system) is that the solution lies in your own hands. You have a choice. You now have an excellent opportunity to take control of what and how you eat and if you can control your weight and you can taste dishes as well.
A significant influence on me coming to this realization is the fact that I live in the Netherlands. I started to look around at how the Dutch approach to eating and staying healthy. I learned how the Netherlands is one of the most obese populations in Europe and I realized that they must be doing something right. So I took my lead from them. This is a great country to be in if you want to lead a healthy life, especially when it comes to food. The market place is saturated with highly processed full of salt and sugar foods in other countries. The Dutch are always aware of seasonal products they celebrate. I find it so comforting each year when I see the arrival of the herring season is celebrated by the whole country . The same goes for asparagus, strawberries or molds. All these fantastic seasonal treats are tasty and good for you.
The Dutch are very moderate. They are masters to enjoy the simple pleasures of life and food . They can enjoy quality over quantity. Portion sizes in restaurants reflect this, they are well balanced and normal health. You tend not to leave the restaurant "stuffed" but satisfied. Sport and movement is a part of life . He is regarded as something to be enjoyed at all levels by everyone. This is reflected in the amount and types of clubs available throughout the various countries. The concept of being active is just" built-in" their psyche , cycling everywhere from childhood to old age. These are just some of the Dutch food cultural aspects that I built in my own healthy lifestyle.
What I learned is that life is for living and food is for enjoying. Re- learn to use simple fresh ingredients, back to the basics of eating and cooking has been my key to losing and maintaining weight over 6 years now. It was to make some changes , but it does not involve dieting. I lost 30 pounds in focusing on what I could eat and not what I could not. In my experience, even though I did not know at the time became the building blocks for my own business, "coach cooking." I help others learn how to cook, tasty, easy healthy meals, help lose weight and eat more consciously.
