His cholesterol levels rose , her iron levels dropped and gallbladder doubled in sizeIn a revealing experience, confessed health freak and nutritionist Amanda Hamilton, 38, spent a week exchanging his usual agave syrup, almonds and rice noodles for the steak pie, chips and cookies to mimic exactly the habits food of the average British woman. She ate an extra 250 calories compared to normal 2000 calorie diet per day .But the damage , both inside and outside was amazing . She won five pounds in weight, two inches around her waist and an inch around her hips. His cholesterol dramatically, his iron levels fell 1 g, and gall bladder - the organ that aids digestion of fats - doubled in size "To say that there was a big change is an understatement, she said. " It's really disturbing news for the British, that just a week of this diet can do such damage.

Far swap Amanda regime was conducted for a documentary for ITV broadcast tonight. Using government data  Amanda worked that the average British woman eats in a week and followed exactly, consume 2,250 calories per day, which is not too far over the recommended 2000 for women. However, it was the makeup of those calories that caused a shock to his system  on average  Britons eat 29 percent more than the recommended amount of saturated fat  14 percent too much salt and 26 percent too sugar .

Meanwhile, they are below the recommended amount of fiber and usually only get three of their five a day fruit and vegetables.Like a thin size 8  Amanda usually consumes about 2,000 calories a day , with a balanced diet based on fresh ingredients and meals filled completely untreated fibers. It is also religious to get his five a day.

When approached to be a Guinea pig for the program, Amanda said she was fascinated. "I am interested to learn what it's like to eat like Ms. means to know what people think is acceptable British regime and what it does for us," says Amanda Optimistic Amanda said she should receive nearly half a pound and see his cholesterol goes up a notch . She did not expect the results to be radical . "It's scary to think what would - and do - happen to people who eat like this every day.

She said she began to feel the negative effects of his new diet almost immediately : "The first day

I started with [prepackaged] biscuits breakfast and an hour, I was hungry again. I had lunch earlier because I was getting so irritable.

And three meals per day - with little or no fruits and vegetables - Amanda had Haribo sweets to nibble and drink full of sugar as soft drinks.

"The second day I had a headache because of all the sugar and had to take a painkiller for the first time in five years. I already felt heavy and slower.

"I usually watch in terms of digestion, but on this diet  I discovered that I am constipated for two days.

Amanda's new regime has caused some eyebrows - and attractions - from those who know ."One night, we had a Chinese takeaway - I normally do something like seasonal greens with oyster sauce, but I had to eat sweet and sour chicken in batter . My friends were absolutely kill laughing."But I'm really struggling . Forcing down a loan cheese - macaroni meal, I found myself fantasizing about delicious cheese salad goat. After a few days , the regime began to really take its toll on his energy levels.

"Normally, I 'm very active - I do something like running or badminton or class exercise three to four times a week - but I found that by 21 hours I was a complete couch potato and I just wanted to crash.

"My husband said that I seemed flat and less enthusiastic. People at work commented on how tired

I looked - even if they do not know I do this experiment.

"My clothes feel tighter after a few days - but no one noticed , I could tell my waistline was expanding. I began to feel a little embarrassed.

Amanda was also surprised to find she became addicted to the sweet elements of the diet - sweet foods can cause peak levels of blood sugar that lead to energy crisis and hunger.

"I noticed that I started to enjoy soft drinks and want a quick fix when I felt tired. I can see how sugar can become a habit.

Perhaps the most difficult to bear, says Amanda thing was the effect of the diet had on his emotional state : I started to feel depressed and I was very grumpy.

Yet even if Amanda knew she looked different and felt different , she still found the reality of the results of medical tests at the end of the week "deeply shocking ."

"I find it hard to get my head around the fact that my gallbladder has doubled in size [because he had to work to digest all the fat], and also weight gain. Two pounds is a huge amount of weight to put on in seven days given the fact that I do not eat extra calories.
